Thank you for sharing Gabriela.
AI has become such a hot topic as of late, with many skeptics. This skepticism seems to be rooted in the fear of job losses and fears coming from sci-fi books, tv, movies, etc. Putting these fears aside, AI has massive potential to aid in the innovation of our future. The article you linked, "Innovation and Design in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," points out a perfect use of AI for Netflix. AI and big data have become the core of Netflix's product, collecting data on their customers and curating a personalized selection for each user's profile. Large companies such as Facebook, Google, Netflix, or Amazon have become experts at collecting data on their customers. That's where AI comes in, because it has the ability to sort through big data and make decisions based on said data that a human could never do as fast or efficiently.
In your opinion, are there industries or companies that would not benefit from AI?
I believe there are plenty of industries that will either be hard to replace with AI or would not benefit from using AI. For example, the advances in AI have starting to creep into the writing world. Journalism, music, and creative writing have all become focuses of writing experiments. AI can now write a full research paper given a prompt or begin writing a work of fiction given certain specifications (such as selecting the genre). While I believe these advances in AI are very interesting, I think people will prefer to read books, listen to music, or consume other creative products that are created by fellow humans. To further answer you question, it may be feasible to use AI in certain industries, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be wanted or well received.
I think one industry that will thrive with AI, and already has, is marketing. Being able to track and predict customer preferences and behaviors is crucial to optimizing marketing strategies. The transportation industry also is another great example of an industry where AI can greatly impact the innovation and design of products. With the continued work toward creating self-driving cars, AI is essential in running simulations that reduce on-road testing.
Do you have any experience with AI-centric innovation systems?
I've never had professional experience with AI-centric innovation systems in any of my jobs, but I have observed it plenty in my every day life and through educational avenues.

Subject: The Influence of AI on Innovation and Design
The capabilities of Artificial Intelligence are incredible, especially when it comes to tasks traditionally thought to be best handled by humans. The JPIM article "Innovation and Design in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" published earlier this year, as well as the corresponding video, both linked below, were eye-opening as far as how AI has transformed design practice. Rather than developing the solution itself, AI enables designers to spend their time and energy sensemaking, or thinking of the big picture in terms of which problem can or should be solved. Algorithm-generated designs, however, require a new skill set, primarily designing problem-solving loops. Ultimately, AI-powered innovation is a more efficient approach considering the possibility of even more customer-centered and creative solutions, along with the elimination of scale, scope, and learning limitations associated with human design. Nevertheless, questions remain whether AI should be adopted in every context or exactly how to transition to this new approach to innovation. In your opinion, are there industries or companies that would not benefit from AI? Do you have any experience with AI-centric innovation systems?
