Event Description

In this workshop, John Mitchell, President and Managing Principal of Applied Marketing Science (AMS) delves into the core of effective product management by sharpening the storytelling skills of product managers.  With a focus on crafting compelling narratives that resonate with stakeholders, this workshop will teach you how to develop concise yet impactful slides, construct logical and persuasive arguments, and tailor your message to meet the specific needs of your audience. Presenter Bio

John Mitchell has been the president and managing principal of Applied Marketing Science (AMS) since June 2015. As president, he oversees strategy and professional development, and helps preserve AMS’s unique culture. As a leader in the firm’s Insights for Innovation practice, he serves clients across many industries, with specific expertise in medical devices, high-tech and telecom, and travel and hospitality.

John’s technical skills include ethnography, segmentation, market sizing, journey mapping and marketing effectiveness. He has led hundreds of domestic and international research engagements, studying customer opinions in South America, Europe and Asia. He has also trained and coached hundreds of AMS clients to develop their in-house insight capabilities. John is a RIVA-trained focus group moderator.

John’s career spans 25 years of market research, marketing strategy, innovation and management consulting. In addition to his AMS experience, John has been a customer insights expert in the marketing and sales practice of McKinsey & Company, where he helped develop McKinsey’s model of the Consumer Decision Journey. He was also a manager at Innosight, an innovation strategy consulting firm founded by Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen, and he led the North America customer insights team at Vistaprint.

Outside of work, John is a skilled carpenter and woodworker. He leads youth service trips to build and repair rural poverty housing, through the Appalachia Service Project. John is Scoutmaster of his local Scouts BSA troop, and is an amateur musician (guitar and voice).

John holds an A.B. in government from Harvard College, and an M.B.A. in management and finance, with Distinction, from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
