I listened to an interesting podcast recently on "The Innovation Show" hosted by Aidan McCullen. He interviewed Alex Osterwalder, the man behind the seminal Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Canvas. He has a new book out called "Testing Business Ideas." I think this is such an important topic. What's more, it's very much geared towards corporate innovators and not just startups.

I found it very informative. In the podcast, he argues that testing new ideas increases the success of any venture and decrease the risk of wasting time, money, and resources on bad ideas. Having been burnt in the past with failed new product introduction, this really resonated with me. I'd recommend listening to the interview and I plan on getting the book. Has anyone else any perspectives on the role of testing of new business ideas as part of the NPD process?

7 out of 10 new products cannot deliver on expectations. Our guest's book aims to reverse that statistic. In the tradition of his global bestseller Business Model Generation, this practical guide contains a library of hands-on techniques for rapidly testing new business ideas.

    Hi Brian,

I just bought the book, it looks amazing from the initial skimming, will try to share later more.

Answering your question, I believe that testing the business idea is an essential part of the NPD especially during the fuzzy front end stage. it has been very costly to launch failed products due to bad insights or bad NPD management. Testing business ideas and product ideas will save organizations lots of costs and risks, as it is always said "Fail Fast, Fail Early"
