    Six Myths of Product Development
Most product-development managers are always struggling to bring in projects on time and on budget. They never have enough resources to get the job done, and their bosses demand predictable schedules and deliverables. So the managers push their teams to be more parsimonious, to write more-detailed plans, and to minimize schedule variations and waste.

    Seif -
This is a great article!  So true, in my experience with several large companies over the past 15 years.
Donald Reinersten, one of the authors, has also written an excellent book on this topic  "The Principles of Product Development Flow".
I believe a major fallacy is that one size product development fits all.
The more successful product development organizations seem to utilize a mixture of philosophies and processes, applying the appropriate one (waterfall, agile, hybrid, etc) according the the goals, needs, and capabilities of the team and project.

Thank you for sharing this article and your thoughts.
