Description

Whether you would like to develop a new product/service or enhance an existing one, this course will set you on the right track to bring your ideas to life.

Engage in this hands-on experience, and learn how to practically apply an integrated management approach to the development of new, innovative and successful products from conception to commercialization. Discover the various methods and tools of product development and how to use them. Examine many of the issues that companies now face during development. The course will take you through the product innovation cycle, starting with identifying opportunities and generating concepts to designing, developing and launching a product.

This course is organized in partnership with the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), Minnesota, United States.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discover the importance of innovation, and why it should be a strategic direction
  • See the world, think like and speak the language of a new product developer
  • Determine why new products fail and what are the evaluation tasks used to mitigate the risk of failure

  • Apply the tools and methodologies for product design and development

About the Instructors:

Mohamed Midani

Mohamad Midani is an assistant professor at the Materials Engineering Department at GUC and an adjunct Assistant Professor at the Wilson College of Textiles NC State University. He is also the managing partner of inTEXive Technical Consulting. His teaching and research are focused on fiber-reinforced polymer composites as well as new product development and innovation management. Midani is a certified New Product Development Professional (NPDP) and a member of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA). He has a PhD in fiber and polymer science and masters in textiles technology management, both from North Carolina State University, as well as a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Ain Shams University.

Seif Abdelghany

Seif Abdelghany is an energetic New Product Development Professional (NPDP), product and project manager with a focus on innovations and product development in the home appliances industry. Abdelghany has worked for three and a half years as a senior R&D engineer in Electrolux home appliances through which he has led and been part of several projects in product innovation and development. He is now working as a local category manager for washing machines where he leads innovation activities for new products from inception to launch. Abdelghany has BSc and MSc in mechatronics engineering from GUC, published three articles and one book. He is currently pursuing his MBA at Eslsca Business School in global management.

Nariman Lotfi

Nariman Lotfi is a professional product designer and an instructor in the product design department at GUC where she was awarded a master’s degree in 2014 focusing on design and bionics. She has focused on research in the fields of product design, biomimicry, and sustainability which she presented in workshops and talks including a TEDx talk at Zeweil City University in 2017. She was awarded the grand prize by the Biomimicry Institute for an irrigation solution for Fayoum's agriculture in 2013. She is currently working on her PhD degree focusing on bridging the gap between the Egyptian industry and design education.

Mohammed Elsabbahy

Mohammed is a Product Manager at Lotus CAD, Innovation Consultant, and former R&D Leader. He has 10 years of experience working in local and multinational companies developing new products in multiple fields; Home Appliances, Plastics, Hardware Products, Steel Structure and Sheet metal. Also, He was a former Innovation Consultant and Technical Manager of a national project supporting +60 companies in accelerating their product development efforts in exporting new products, especially to the European Union. Mohammed holds a Bachelor's degree in Design and Production Engineering from Ain Shams University.
